| Basal squamules persistent, inconspicuous, 1–2 mm long, 0.5–1 mm diam., incised, with crenate margins, esorediate. Podetia arising from basal squamules, 1.5–5.0 cm tall, 1–4 mm diam., subcylindrical or tapering to apices, simple or branching somewhat near tips, with closed axils, esquamulose or with squamules on lower part, green to greenish grey; scyphi deformed, not well defined, narrow; cortex extending up to one third of podetia height, and below apothecia, remainder of podetia ecorticate and densely floury-sorediate. Apothecia rare, terminal, 1–3 mm diam., convex, red. CHEMISTRY: K- or K+ yellow, KC-, P- or P+ yellow. Thamnolic (major), barbatic (major) and didymic (major) acids; thamnolic and/or didymic acids may be absent, rarely with thamnolic acid alone. | ||
